RICKY j TAYLOR and the LIVE ROOTS ENSEMBLE at SJCC
By Anita Zaccardi
On Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 7:30 p.m., South Jackson Civic Center will present the first show of its three Performing Arts Series, Ricky j Taylor and the Live Roots Ensemble. Potential ticket holders, hear this! Rick Taylor will give the CD titled “A Journey to Here” FREE to all ticket holders!
The group of five musicians is a multi-talented bunch with many individual accolades. The type of music generated on stage is likely to crossover from blue grass to country to folk or even to chamber music. A southern traditional emphasis will capture emotions ranging from sad, sincere, cathartic, or uplifting.
Lead musician Ricky j Taylor offers his talents as vocalist, guitarist, and bassist. Originally from Kentucky, Rick is from a very musical family. His strongest musical influence came from his father, JB Taylor, a master of traditional bluegrass music.
Rick has appeared on syndicated shows including Heartland Network’s “Dugger Mountain Music Hall,” CMT’s “Most Wanted,” TNN’s “New Country,” and several more.
Ricky’s stage experience began as a bassist and vocalist in the band “Cross Country,” which included notable members Mike Snider and the late Charlie Derrington. Touring the southeast for many years, they won first place awards numerous times. Rick also toured across the country from 2002-2005 with award winning artist Claire Lynch.
Mandolin champion of Alabama, John Boulware, is a key member of the group, as is five-time Tennessee State Fiddle Champion, Jim Wood, his wife, guitarist Inge Wood, and national champion Buck dancer, Hillary Bevels.
Their rhythmic pace is simply contagious!
